MODEL BUILDERS REFERENCE VAULT LOBBY

THE LATEST IN THE VAULT

01 / 01 / 04: The Vault has been back "on the air" for about the last year now, thanks to a new web host "49pence" located in London, UK. They provide an excellent service at an extremely reasonable price and we hope to be with them for a very long time. The begining of 2004 has seen the addition of twenty new sections devoted to the hardware from the TV series "UFO" and there is plenty more in the works!

06 / 09 / 01: The Vault has been off-the-air since the end of 2000 because of increased billing demands by various web hosts. The original host (Simplenet) was bought by Yahoo which then instigated a new pricing structure whereby the largest site they offered was 150mb and cost $30 per month! The "Vault" is 1GB in size and growing, obviously it would be impractical for a non-commercial site to pay $210+ per month in web hosting fees. So the Vault was moved to a new host (Burlee) who offered an attractive "unlimited" hosting package at $13 per month. However, soon after this account was established and the site was completely uploaded to the new server, they soon demanded higher fees, much as Simplenet had and for about the same amount!

In my desire to bring you top quality material with minimum distractions I decided that I also did not want advertisements on my site. This had been proposed as one possible solution to the rising cost of hosting fees but huge segments of the Vault's audience are in parts of the world where internet connections are charged for by the minute! I did not want to add elements to the site which would cause these people to pay for more online time than they absolutely needed. This is why the site has a very simple design, with no animations or other items which would extend loading time. The Model Builders Reference Vault also has its own domain name which shall remain constant, even if there may be further changes of web hosts. "http://www.cloudster.com" is the Vaults permanent address now and can be used to find it no matter where the server is or who owns it.

Finally a new host has been found (again) who is not affraid of a 1GB website (have heard this before...) and who only askes a reasonable fee for their services. So, once again, the "Vault" takes to the internet air waves in the sure-and-certain-knowledge that nothing on the internet is certain!

Take care,

Phil Broad
