Welcome to the Model Builders Reference Vault!
This web site is dedicated to providing model builders with a source of visual reference material for making their projects more accurate and enjoyable.
This site is broadly focused on machines, both real and imagined, and is divided into two sections along these lines. The depth of coverage varies widely from just a few photos to full photo "surveys" plus scale drawings. Typically the photos are not artistic or beauty shots, they are what I like to call "nuts and bolts" shots. The purpose is to let the viewer see the given subject at "arms reach" wherever possible. In the first section below you will find all the "real" subjects; aircraft, spacecraft, armored vehicles, custom cars, ships, submarines, and railroad equipment. The second section focuses on subjects created for various science fiction films and are generally representative of "projected thinking" about machines yet to come.
Whether you are a model builder, designer, historian or just a curiosity seeker you will probably find something of interest here. Enjoy your stay and check back regularly as new material is added each month.
