Outer Limits Spacesuits

Like most of the other space flight
elements in the "Outer Limits" the spacesuits used were originally
designed for "Men Into Space". Upon close examination of the images
found throughout this section it appears that the helmets are real (or some
of them are). They feature sound proof headsets inside and a makers logo can
be seen on the lower front visor frame in the episode "The Premonition"
(see the X-15 section of the Outer Limits
site). Although made long before the X-15 program got started, these suits
are fairly accurate predictions of the pressure suits used in that program
and are a testament to the research done for "Men Into Space". The
actual X-15 type suit featured an orange colored pressure suit with a built-in
torso harness which extended through an outer silver heat reflective covering.
The harness could then be attached to straps on the pilots ejection seat.
The suit also had a built-in bailout oxygen supply mounted to the back underneath
the silver covering which then gave the pilots a hunched-back appearance while
wearing them. The actual X-15 helmets looked a great deal like these too,
if not being these exact models.
